Adopt a Tractor
Are you mechanically inclined? Do you love agricultural history most when it is in motion or even more when you can touch or smell it? If so, you might want to adopt one of the many old tractors donated to the Antique Powerland Museum Association (APMA).
What does it mean to “adopt” a tractor?
If you ever thought you’d like to own an antique tractor, but realized that you either don’t have the space or tools or knowledge to restore and maintain it or maybe you just didn’t have the budget for it. Well, you don’t have to think that sensibly anymore! In fact, you can satisfy your need to tinker while doing your part to preserve history without the burden of ownership. APMA not only has a tractor for you to work on, it can provide the knowledge necessary to do the job well. We’ll even buy the parts.
Why on earth would you let me work on your tractors?
APMA wants running tractors. Sure, we have museums and all that equipment looks great in them, but we believe to experience the machinery it is best to interact with it in the way our ancestors did. While seeing these old beasts in operation is a great thing, making them operational is an entirely more satisfying and authentic experience. You’ll actually live the history - and that is a very special way we can fulfill our mission while you help us to fulfill it for others.
With so many old tractors in various stages of repair being left to us by those who can’t take care of them any longer, APMA receives the burden of ownership, but also carries the expectations of the donors that their projects will be better off if we coordinate for their maintenance and restoration. We’re already trying to keep the tractors running, but our Adopt a Tractor program is how we intend to care for the growing number of tractors we’re receiving. So we need your help!
Seriously. Aren’t you afraid I’ll ruin your museum piece?
No. We’re not. If you have the time and the desire, your effort may be the only thing that prevents a tractor from completely rusting away. APMA has little to lose by letting you, with our help, try to get these tractors in working order.
